Cadence Readout Behaving Oddly

Postby Fifebiker » Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:19 pm

I have recently noticed that after I start either VR, RLV or Catalyst & start pedaling the cadence display stays at zero for maybe a minute or more and then seems to display correctly for the rest of the session. If I stop pedaling and then start again there will be a delay before the cadence displays correctly. Everything else works and movement / braking seems OK. I have checked all connections & they seem OK & magnet alignment seems OK. I would have expected a poor connection to show up as an intermittant cadence display during the training session.

I am using latest Fortius software with the iMagic trainer (white controller with green ring).

I have tried running the system test but this does not work. It says there is no connection (I don't think the system test is compatible with the new white / green controller?).

Can anyone help please?

About the only other thing I can think of is a bad data cable. You might look for corrosion on the pins on the female connectors. It's kind of a long shot. I am surprised that the System Test program does not work. Have you tried removing and reinstalling it? I'm assuming you have the most recent version (it is fairly old, but there were older ones):

Thanks for the reply mcorn,

All connectors look OK I have downloaded the system test again just to be on the safe side. Re instaled it and still NO GO.

Did the Install Interface Drivers first then attempt to run the system test. I get the following..............

E:\Tacx\Tools\System Test\Windrivers>wdreg -inf windrvr6.inf install

Controller was plugged in.

Run System Test

Gives error There is no connection between the USB Interface & the PC.

When Fortius Software is started its OK

Connected Device is iMagic-VR
& in info

Serial Number Brake i-magic brake
Serial number interface 040902003
Build date 1/1/2009
Software ver of sysdriver 0.0.1

When I start catalyst and pedal the speed, power & HR register but cadence remains zero. If I move the crank magnet backwards & forwards over the sensor a few times the cadence shows a value & is then OK. If I stop & restart pedaling the cadence stops & I have to do the same to get it going. This is starting to look very much like either a software / driver / controller problem.

How wierd is that !!!!!

any more ideas???

Send an email to support@tacx.nl. You might have a bad resistance unit. It is very easy to check the cadence switch itself, just use an ohmmeter to confirm the circuit closes when the magnet is adjacent. It's a simply on-off reed-type switch.
