ANT+ to BLE converter

Post by Loek » Sun Feb 25, 2018 11:07 pm

I found this app for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... _HeartRate to convert an ANT+ signal to a BLE signal that TDA can read. TDA can see my ANT+ HR strap now, but in the sensor overview, the Bluetooth icon is grey and not white (see screenshot below). Did anyone ever try this app and found it to work? It could be a great workaround until TDA natively supports ANT+.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately when I tried, it does not solve the issue; the icon is still grey and the HR value is still 0. See the screenshot below.

Here a screenshot from the app:

The fact that TDA sees it all is encouraging.

Just to confirm that the conversion app actually works and you have it configured correctly, have you tried the app with any other programs that work off of BT? There are some HR only programs that are designed for BT that you can get for free.

Hi, I tried to find an app on Windows that can show the HR via BLE, but could not find any app. Do you know some app that I can test?

Did not do a lot of searching, but this one came up:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p ... zdncrdkw2v

If you have a mobile device, there are numerous free BT heart rate programs such as Polar's:

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a few Android apps. All of them can find the sensor, but none of them actually show the HR value. So maybe something is not working in the converter app. I can't seem to find any settings in the converter app, there is nothing to set.

Sounds like the converter could have issues.

What make and model HR strap are you using? I assume you have tested it directly with an ANT+ application.

Presuming you want to use more than an ANt+ HR transmitter this seems to be the only viable solution although I can't vouch for it

If you just want a BT HR Transmitter, there are Ant+ & BT combined HR transmitters out there for about £25 on Amazon, I've got one , it works perfectly.

Have you reached out the the app developer at all?

I'm interested in a solution as I don't really want to go out and buy a new HRM just for this...

I'm using the Garmin HR Premium ANT+ strap. I have tested with the Strava app, and it detects the ANT+ HR strap without any problems, and also shows the correct HR value.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't want to buy another HR strap. My intention was to use my existing ANT+ strap and convert the ANT+ signal to the BLE signal such that TDA can use it. the Cable product seems to work based on the reviews, but it's a little expensive :).

Yes, I contacted the developer of the app a while ago, but unfortunately, I did not yet get a response.

I'm thinking of shelling out for the CABLE... it also gets around the issue with apple products relating to the number of BLE devices you can attach as you can link multiple devices to the CABLE but it only uses up one BLE slot on the iPad/iPhone.

Update:

This evening I tried again, and this time the Polar Beat app actually found the sensor, and correctly showed my HR! See the screenshot below. So it seems for some apps the ANT+ to BLE converter app does actually work. Unfortunately, the TDA software does not seem to support this feature correctly yet. So, still hope...

... and some more apps that seem to pick up the correct HR from the ANT+ to BLE HeartRate converter app:

BLE Tool (https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... emi.bleapp):

BLE HRM (https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... trate.main):

So if it can work with these apps, hopefully, the Tacx engineers can also make it work in TDA.

Hard to tell. The Polar Beat app is a mobile device app and TDA is a W10 Creators edition app.

Have you had success with the converter on any Windows 10 program or app?

Could you name a few Windows HR apps that can read BLE signals? I'm happy to try them, but I don't seem to find any except this one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p ... zdncrdkw2v. But that one I can't get to work. Do you know of any other ones?

You will have to look around. The link you have is the one I suggested.

I tried a few Windows apps, but can't seem to get it to work. For example the HeartRateBLE app (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p ... verviewtab). It connects to the converter app, but it shows a HR of 0 BPM, see the screenshot below.
