TDA GPS rides

Post by afnug » Thu Feb 15, 2018 6:53 pm

How do you start a GPS ride in TDA, I can import a GPS file, but can't figure out how to start the ride, I am still using the Beta app in windows, do I have to remove the Beta and replace it with an updated version ?

I have not taken out a subscription yet, I ride mainly GPS in TTS 4 so wanted to compare.

TDA doesn't support GPS rides (yet).
It's purely a video application right now

You can ride your imported GPS ride using the Tacx Training App for now.

i was looking at this on the Tacx website and it suggests it supports GPS in windows, or have I got it wrong.

You have got it wrong. Look at the column for TDA. It does not indicate GPS support.

So does that mean GPS is available to ride on phone and tablet ?

As far as I know, TTS4 should be able to as well. Though it's not connected to the cloud.
You'll have to import the GPS file into TTS4 itself

You can ride GPS on the Tacx Training App. You need to login to your Tacx Cloud and in the left hand pane select 'Create Workout'. You can then import a gpx file into the Tacx Cloud (having created one using mapping software or downloaded ride data). You can then smooth the gps data (three options available) and then click on 'Start Upload'. Once it's done the GPS route will appear in your workouts on the Tacx Cloud. All you need to do then is open TTA up and select 'Workouts' and your newly created GPS ride will appear. You then select this GPS ride and use it to train.

Thanks all for the replies, I seem to have confused myself with this, and now know that you can ride GPS in TTA and not TDA, it doesn't help in IMO that the TDA windows program is referred to as an app.

The Windows app concept and terminology comes from Microsoft, not Tacx. Windows 10 apps are different than Windows 10 programs as the apps are distributed through the Microsoft store and are a different platform.

I didn't know that, I just assumed because it runs on windows 10, it is a windows program, thanks for the info.

Well, it is a Windows 10 program in the general sense, but there is this category of Windows 10 program called a Windows app which Microsoft has been increasingly pushing for a variety of reasons. It is supposed to be more secure among other things as it is available only through the Microsoft store and presumably passes various security and quality requirements.
