ANT+ genius compatibility
I have downloaded and installed the TDA. I tried to find my non-smart Genius ANT+, it showed a few times on the device manager, but, then it disappeared. Does anybody know if TDA is already compatible with "older" (mid-2015) non-smart trainers? Did you have success using it?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: ANT+ genius compatibility
As of today, a non-Smart ANT+ trainer (non-Bluetooth) is not support in TDA. No word on when, if ever, these older ANT+ only trainers will be supported.miannini wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2018 6:33 pmI have downloaded and installed the TDA. Try to make a screenshot at the time of such recognition. It is very interesting.

Re: ANT+ genius compatibility
The TDA guide statement on this makes it questionable whether ANT+ will ever be supported on TDA
Does it really only works on Bluetooth
The ANT+ developer (Dynastream) needs to develop a driver for UWP (development
environment for Microsoft, which Tacx Desktop app is using), which are not compatible with
the older ANT+ driver. Therefor the driver cannot be certified by Microsoft and cannot be
used under UWP for Windows 10 (were Tacx Desktop app has been build on). At this point
we are not sure when this can be implemented.

Re: ANT+ genius compatibility
Dynastream does not need/have to develop anything. They've already developed driver for Windows that is perfectly usable from desktop applications. The guilty party is Tacx/Their vendor who had for whatever reasons chosen UWP as their platform instead of standard desktop application. Their bad. This choice gives zero advantages and a whole host of limitations. Besides even for UWP if they really wanted to the issue is easily solvable.

Choosing UWP has gotten TDA painted into a corner. I have no idea why Dynastream does not develop a signed driver for use with UWP. Seems like Dynastream is also painting itself into a corner as it is limiting ANT+ apps that can be sold in the Microsoft store.

This is not a one winter issue, it is all winters.Tacx Video Production wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2018 5:18 pmIt all makes no difference anyway, Tacx missed the winter. Everyone will be out on road in a few weeks here..
Re: ANT+ genius compatibility
My bad, in Win10, TDA does not shows my ANT+ roller. It shows on the iPad... Sorry for the confusion.Alex Masalovich wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2018 10:35 pmTry to make a screenshot at the time of such recognition. It is very interesting.
Re: ANT+ genius compatibility
Any news of the compatibility between TDA and older non-smart Tacx trainers? Did anyone from Tacx hear a word?
Re: ANT+ genius compatibility
My impression is this is very unlikely to happen any time soon due to the choice to use the Microsoft UWP platform for TDA. It seems to not make much sense given the large base of ANT+ only hardware out there, but I have seen little public indication that this will be solved or that anyone is actually working on this. Dynastream, part of Garmin and the owner of ANT+, indicated two years ago that it was working on it, but that all seems to have fizzled. I suspect there are some major incompatibilities between the UWP platform and ANT+. There may be be someone else on the forum who better understands the technical issues.
Re: ANT+ genius compatibility
It possible!
UWP can communicate with Win32 process. So can do Win32 bridge for ANT+.

Re: ANT+ genius compatibility
Hello Spiix,
are there any news concerning the compatibility between TDA and the ANT + protocol? There are many users who not only use older ANT+ only trainers, but who need to be able to pair other sensors such as HR strapss, speed / cadence sensors and power meters that only use the ANT+ connection.
Many thanks in advance for your reply.
Best regards.
