Help with TDA and Flux

Post by MMartin29 » Thu Dec 28, 2017 1:11 pm

Hello all.

I just bought a Tacx Flux but i can't connect it to the new Tacx Desktop App.

I can connect to:

- Ipad Tacx cycling (with BT)
- My mac and third party apps (both with BT and my Garmin Ant+ dongle)

But somehow i can't connect it to the app on windows 10. I tried both with BT and with the ANT+ dongle, the trainer does not show up on the devices list.

Is there anything that i am missing here?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the newbie

TDA only works with BT. You need to enable BT in Win10, you also need to allow apps to connect to radios to which the PC isn‘t connected and you need to connect from the app, not from Windows. The Flux musn‘t be connected to anything else when connecting with the app.

I did all of that but nothing, it does not connect:

- radio is active, allowing the app to control it
- BT is enabled
- nothing else is connected but it seems it does not work at all (it keeps searching and searching and does not pair at all inside the app).

Be sure no ANT+ antenna is plugged in at the same time as BT and that you restart the Flux if it was previously using ANT+.

What kind or type of BT transmitter do you have? Sometimes BT transmitters built into a laptop are weaker in terms of range. A standalone usb plugin BT transmitter is very inexpensive. I use a $4 unit without any problem.

Do you have a BT hr strap to see if it is being picked up by TDA?

If your using a USB Bluetooth dongle as a receiver, I initially had no luck with my generic dongle and replaced it with a Pluggable dongle based on its good reviews and the fact that it uses a different chipset than the generic ones. Things worked perfectly once I did that.

I've used 3 different inexpensive ($3 - $8) BT4.0 dongles (including an Asus USB-BT400) and all worked fine. I think most all of these use the Qualcomm CSR8510 or Broadcom BCM20702 Chipset and are pretty interchangeable. I think your Plugable uses the Broadcom and is likely the same device as the ASUS BT400.

Most problems probably arise from the wrong driver. The best thing to do is let W10 find the correct driver and not attempt to install drivers that come with the dongle.

Ok, so i got it working.

I don't know what happened but my computer had minor issues with BT (onboard one) and it was not working.

I tried with my work computer that i got home today to test and it worked in 1 second.

Thank you all for the help and the tips.
