bluetooth not working with tda - SOLVED

Post by Niek » Fri Nov 17, 2017 11:41 pm

Hi,
Just bought myself a asus BT400 bluetooth 4.0 usb adapter to use with TDA
Can't connect my TDA app to NEO with bluetooth.
When i want to pair in TDA with my Neo is messages: 'Bluetooth radio is not on'.
Outside of TDA in windows 10 My bluetooth is on. It recognizes my Neo and i can pair it in windows.
Why is it not working in TDA?

You cannot pair it via windows as TDA can not use it if you do.

Also make sure the following settings are on in your Windows (Copy past inc)

Device’s
Make sure the Bluetooth setting is enabled

Radio not on error
The fix for this can be either enable the Radio setting or the “Other devices” setting.

Locations to find them :
Settings > Privacy settings > Radio
Settings > Privacy settings > Other devices

Both setting should be turned on to fix the “Radio not on” error.

I also cannot connect my Neo to TDA. I have a BT 4.0 USB dongle in my laptop and it has installed correctly with the latest drivers.

The BT USB Dongle info is here. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06Y6MZFBR/ ... 41_TE_dp_1

Bluetooth is on. I haven't attempted to pair them.
My Neo BT is working ok as it connects to the Tacx Utility on my ipad ok.
In the settings for my Bluetooth Radio, Radio is turned on.
When I start TDA it goes to the Connect Devices page and when I select all and search it finds nothing.
If I turn off Bluetooth in 'Bluetooth and other devices' I get the 'Bluetooth Radio is not on' error.
I can see my Neo in 'Add Bluetooth Device > Select a Device to add to this computer'

Any ideas?

Thanks

See above - your privacy settings must not prohibit connection of Apps to radios that aren’t explicitly connected to your PC. If that setting prevents such connections, Win 10 on your PC will see the Neo and offer to connect it, but TDA cannot.

Thanks but both Radios and Other devices privacy settings are 'On' so that's not the problem.

The frustrating thing is that I have two fully patched and up to date windows 10 devices, a desktop PC and a laptop.

TDA starts and appears to function fine on the laptop except for the fact I can't connect to my Neo on Bluetooth.

TDA starts on my Desktop PC but crashes every time on starting. I get the following (see screenshots) The last screen is the black screen with the windows type spinning circle.

Are there any logs that might give a clue what's going on on my Desktop PC?

Thanks

Have you checked whether the laptop has its own BT radio? I had issues with BT dongles in my desktop PC before I noticed that this desktop PC has its own WLAN/BT combo radio. Neo via BT works fine since I removed the dongle and its drivers. Native BT capability is fairly standard for laptops nowadays, in any case more than for desktops.

My USB Ports on my desktop PC sometimes act unusual at times and won't connect to devices like my Sennheiser Headset and camera, etc. Did you try different ports?

Need to follow up on this suggestion about checking for BT onboard on the PC causing a conflcit. However, sometimes onboard BT does not work as well in terms of interference.

In that case disabling the onboard radio, and working with a dongle, sure would be the better solution.
So far I‘m happy with my onboard BT. With TTS 4 and ANT, the connection is a bit shaky if the antenna is not in a line-of sight position to the brake. I never saw any such issues with BT up to now. (I still would love to use the handlebar unit for TDA.)

Agree wholeheartedly with this.
My bike doesn't have a mouse or keyboard. These are both several yards away.
On TYS4, I can start the video, and while it is counting down, jump on the bike, and then control things from the handlebar keys.
Must admit I've started to look for reasonably price BlueTooth keypads with programmable keys, as a way of using TDA.
This is one of the things that makes TDA annoying for me....

Ive not tested it yet but you maybe able to do it with a smart phone BT keypad app, near everything for TDA while riding is via the numpad keys

Ugh...
I'm not going to be toting something as large/fragile as a mobile phone around. The little TTS keypad is as large as I'd want. It's quite easy to unclip for riding, while anything secure enough to hold a reasonable phone, starts to get a bit too permanent. Must admit this bike is not one of the ones I use on the road at present, but I do like to keep it 'uncluttered'.

I use the microsoft BT numpad, bike is about 2 meters from the laptop thats feeding a TV via hdmi, works great for turning stuff on or off..only thing I need a mouse for is to adjust the breakforce slider..but if you do this before starting in the settings your good to go.

My only word of caution would be that loading up on too many other BT devices has the potential to create issues with TDA. It would be something you would need to watch for.

We wouldn't have to, if TDA could access the existing TTS4 button pad.....

That would require TDA to use ANT+ instead of or in addition to BT.

Just as an aside, I find that my Tacx controllers (Genius blue and Vortex white with yellow) have periodic problems with TTS4. Basically, the left and right buttons do not work at times during a ride. There are no electro-mechanical issues with the controllers themselves and neither has any problem with TTS3. It is a TTS4 issue and is very unpredictable as to when it will occur. I have reported this issue for some time.

The problem I had with Bluetooth is fixed. Should have updated this a while back.

My Laptop came with a BT2 chipset and drivers.

I made the mistake of installing the Driver Stack which came with the USB BT4 adapter to try to get BT to work

I ended up uninstalling the BT4 adapter driver stack and disabling the BT2 Driver.

Then, when I plugged in the adapter windows 10 found a driver for it and installed it. As BT2 was disabled, there was no conflict and TDA and Neo started talking to each other happily ever after. :D
