Tire squeak, motorbrake cleaning and adjustment

Post by wiseguy » Tue Jan 19, 2010 1:04 am

I have a 110 volt Motorbrake that is difficult to get properly adjusted against the tire. There is a fine line between a grinding noise ( too tight) or the squeaking of the Tacx tire (too loose) as it slips against the motorbrake especially squeaky on an uphill rides (8-10 degrees). Followed the instructions in the manual. Calibration is normal.

Has anyone attempted to clean the roller on the motorbrake to remove some of the residual tire tread? Mine has a little residue even though I'm using the blue Tacx tire. I was thinking about isopropyl alcohol.

Thanks.

I've been fighting squeak for years with both a fortius and now a Bushido smart. Tacx tire at full inflation with calibration done on booth trainers but still squeak above 4% grade. After a while the tire looks slick so I rough it a bit (it looks almost glazed like it overheated) so a little roughness to hold the roller helps. But it doesn't stop for long. Am going to try a regular tire or a non-tacx tire.

Scrape with your nails, that is enough. Then you can buff with a clean cloth or plain cotton wool.

Be sure to clean the metal roller as well as the tire. In addition, if things seem to be slipping, look carefully at whether the metal sleeve is loosening from the grey polyurethane roller. There is a long thread on this subject, including how to fix it:
